Jarad Scott signs National Letter of Intent with Winthrop

#SCELITE

With a few signatures, Jarad Scott made it official.  He’s a Winthrop Eagle.

The Lumberton native and senior at Flora Macdonald Academy signed a scholarship offer and national letter of intent Wednesday afternoon to continue his basketball career at Winthrop University, a Division I program in Rock Hill, S.C.

Surrounded by teammates and family members, Scott, a 6-foot-8 forward, set plans in stone at his school after verbally committing to Winthrop coach Pat Kelsey last month.

“It’s just exciting,” Scott said. “I’m at a loss for words.”

After receiving Scott's faxed LOI, Kelsey called himself the “happiest coach in America.”
“I knew when I laid eyes on that kid that I had to coach him,” Kelsey said, praising Scott’s character and ability.

“He’s got a very unique blend of size, skills, and toughness,” he said. “Obviously he’s got the physical attributes and tools, in terms of his length and his size, but for a young man of that size, he’s got a very high skill level. He can shoot the ball from the perimeter, he’s got a very good back-to-basket game. He can do a lot of different things for his size.”
